Shinas leads in rainfall

Muscat: Mainly clear skies is prevailing across the northern governorates of the Sultanate of Oman while it has been partly cloudy to cloudy along the southern part of Oman, over Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates.


“Some clouds A forming over Alhaja mountains with chances of isolated rain. Meanwhile the far in the Worcester could have isolated rains occasionally thunder showers,” said Mohammed al Mashyakhi, Meteorological Specialist at Oman Met Office, Civil Aviation Authority, speaking to Observer.


As per the weather stations of Oman Met Office, the wilayats that recorded highest rainfall were Shinas, North Batinah with 186.4 mm, Wadi Bani Khalid, Al Sharqiyyah with 151 mm, Wilayat Danq in Al Dhahirah recorded 142 mm.


“There were records set in terms of amount of rainfall received in one hour during this period. On 14th of April, Wadi Bani Khalid recorded at 12 pm 91.6 mm in one hour. Danq on Tuesday recorded around 68.2 mm in one hour at 10 pm, while at the same time Shinas recorded around 50 mm,” said Mohammed.


In terms of daily records Shinas recorded 180.2 mm, Danq recorded 139.6 mm, and Wadi bani Khalid received 129.2 mm on April 14th. Wilayat Madha records on Tuesday recorded 14.4 mm, Kamil Al Wafi recorded 86 mm on April 14th.


The Meteorological Expert also confirmed that there is an indication of a low pressure trough forecast for April 23rd and 24th.
