The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued heavy rain alert as the northern governorates will come under the effect of a low pressure system from Sunday.
Heavy to extremely heavy rains are expected in the governorates of Muscat, Al Batinah South, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah North and Al Sharqiyah South, until Monday evening.
The Oman Met Office warned of heavy rain on Sunday and Monday ranging between 30-120 mm, possibly extending over the governorates of Musandam, Al Batinah North, Al Buraimi, Al Wusta and Dhofar. Rough seas and rising sea waves of between two and three metres are expected on most coasts of the Sultanate of Oman. The rain will be associated with active downdraft winds with speeds of 20-45 knots.
Heavy to extremely heavy rains are expected over the governorates of Al Buraimi, Al Batinah North, Muscat, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Sharqiyah North and Al Sharqiyah South. Scattered rainfall is expected in Musandam Governorate and parts of Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates.
The CAA has called on everyone to take caution during thunderstorms, urging them to avoid crossing running wadis and to keep away from low-lying areas and not to venture into the sea during the period of low pressure.
Most of the northern governorates witnessed light to heavy rains on Saturday.
Light rains were reported in the coastal areas of the Wilayat of Saham and there are still chances of precipitation over the coast and the mountains.
Meanwhile, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has warned users of Haima road towards the north about near-zero visibility due to dust and sand accumulation on the road.
