MUSCAT: Indian Social Club (ISC) Oman hosted its first edition of Ramadhan Family Box Cricket tournament for its members on April 5 at Oasis Cricket Academy Ghala. This tournament consisted of 16 teams which was played on knockout basis. The participating teams were Hindi Wing, Goan Wing, Kerala Wing, Kachcci Wing, Malabar Wing, Uttranchal Wing, Sankrit Wing, Bengali Wing, Bohra Wing, Tamil Wing, Deccani Wing, ISC parent body team, two teams from Gujarati Wing and Karnataka Wing.


Many Families came together after the iftar to witness the tournament. A crowd of more than 400 people was present throughout the tournament. The tournament kicked off at 7 pm which was inaugurated by the Babu Rajendran, ISC Chairman, in presence of other committee members of ISC CM Sardar, Vice-Chairman, Shakeel, General Secretary, Suhail Khan, Cultural and Entertainment Secretary, Govind Negi, Treasurer, Prasad, Joint Cultural Secretary, Shameer, Social Welfare Secretary and Sanjit Kanojia, Sports Secretary.


During the opening ceremony, the chairman welcomed the players and spectators and he thanked all the participating wings, the umpires and the attendees for the evening. Rajendran appreciated the efforts put in by Sanjit Kanojia, Sports Secretary and his team for organising the event. He also stated the importance of conducting such programmes to promote interaction between the members of the ISC family.


The first round matches started at 7 pm in 3 different grounds. The first round matches were played between Goan Wing and Kerala Wing, Sanskrit Wing and Uttranchal Wing, Bengali Wing and Gujarati Wing, Kachchhi Wing vs Malabar Wing, Karnataka Wing 2 vs Tamil Wing, Karnataka Wing 1 vs ISC Kings, Bohra wing vs Gujarati Wing 1, and last match of the first round was played between Hindi Wing and Deccani Wing. In the second round, the quarterfinal matches were played between Kerala Wing vs Kachchhi Wing, Sanskrit Wing vs Gujarati Wing 2, Gujarati Wing 1 vs Karnataka Wing 2 and Deccani Wing vs ISC Kings. The third round matches were semifinals which were played between Kachchhi Wing vs Sanskrit Wing and Gujarati Wing 1 vs Deccani Wing. The final was played between Deccani Wing and Kachchhi Wing where Kachchhi Wing won the toss and elected to bowl first. Batting first, Deccani Wing put up 50 runs losing 5 wickets in 7 overs. In reply, Kachchhi Wing were bundled out for 24 runs in 4.3 overs. For Deccani Wing, captain Junaid scores 29 runs in 13 balls and took 2 crucial wickets for the team. Deccani Wing won the match by 26 runs to lift the Champions Trophy.


In Individual awards category, best child player award was given to Redhan of Deccani Wing, best lady player trophy was given to Safiya of Deccani Wing, best batsman award was given to Kartik of Gujarati Wing, best bowler award went to Ansar of Kachchhi Wing and player of the tournament was given to Junaid of Deccani Wing. All these awards were given away by the committee members of ISC.


The umpires and scorers were handed over gift vouchers for their support. The runners-up trophy and cash vouchers were given away by CM Sardar and winners trophy and cash vouchers were given away by Babu Rajendran.


The tournament was sponsored by National Metalcans and supported by Oman Oasis drinking water and Supa Sportsman.


Sanjit mentioned that “I was thrilled to see the large number of families that came to the ground and enjoyed each and every moment of the tournament, it was just looking like a carnival. We have got a lot of positive response from this tournament and we have assured our members that Ramadhan Family Box Cricket tournament will be held every year on a grand scale, thank you to all the participating teams for making this tournament a grand success."
