The auspicious last days of Ramadhan are revered because one of them could be the Night of the Power. The last 10 days of Ramadhan are considered to be the most auspicious and people look forward to them with great interest.
Hatim Al Abdissalaam, life coach and member from the Islamic Information Centre, Oman, calls them the 10 most important days of our lives. “The reason why they are called 10 most important days is because within these days is the Night of Power. Allah revealed the Holy Quran in the Night of Power and the reward of achieving the Night of Power is equivalent to 83 years of worship. So devotion must be at its best,” said Al Abdissalaam.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to wake up his family at night to pray. In the last 10 days, the prophet, peace be upon him, used to seclude himself, which is a practice called Itikaf, where you seclude in a mosque and you are devoted entirely for worship.
“I would urge people who have never practiced Itikaf before to try it at least once in a lifetime. Even if it is for two days, you will have a better connection to Allah." He noted that in Ramadhan, “We do practice our faith with devotion but at the same time we have kids, work and other activities. But the last 10 days is all about you letting go of this world and being secluded and devoted only to Allah. So no phone, no kids, no office. Nothing except glorifying Allah. We all encourage one another to roll our sleeves in the last days of Ramadhan and devote ourselves to the Almighty.” And that means cutting off from worldly affairs. “I know we are tired and exhausted, but this is a golden opportunity and we will regret it if we do not take advantage of this. The practice sees us being disconnected from the world to face reality. It is just 10 days dedicated to Allah, who has given us all the bounties whether we asked for it or not,” Al Abdissalaam said.
