Muscat: The Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation issued Ministerial Resolution 19/2024, amending some provisions of Ministerial Resolution 5/2004 to establish Dhofar Private University.

The decision states that a College of Medicine will be added to the Dhofar Private University, in addition to the scientific research centers provided that the study begins by decision of the Minister after completing its components and requirements.

Other colleges at the university include the College of Commerce and Business Administration, the College of Arts and Applied Sciences, and the College of Law.

In May 2023, Sultan Qaboos University and Dhofar University signed cooperation agreements that cover various academic and training areas, as well as supporting the establishment of a college of medicine at Dhofar University.

It also touches upon setting the requirements of academic accreditation and quality assurance for the Doctor of Medicine program.

This support will continue until the graduation of the first class of students.

The agreement, also, stipulates the formation of joint teams of experts from both sides and the development of Interim indicators to ensure the implementation of the provisions and the achievement of the objectives of the agreement.

The second agreement, which will last for 3 years, seeks to promote the exchange of experiences, quality assurance, active learning in educational courses, the exchange of visits as well as the organization of joint activities at the level of preparatory studies.

The Ministry of Health and Dhofar University also entered into a partnership to facilitate training for the College of Medicine students at the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah and Nizwa Hospital.
