NEW YORK: The permanent delegation of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations held an official consultation session with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).


The session was presided over by Dr Mohammed bin Awad al Hassan, Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations, and Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).


The two sides discussed a number of current issues in the Middle East region stressing the importance of respecting the rules and basis of the international humanitarian law by all parties especially in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip in particular.


The president of the ICRC praised the attitude adopted by the Sultanate of Oman in supporting international humanitarian efforts, expressing her happiness over the level of existing cooperation and coordination between the two sides and the continued support that the ICRC receives from the government of the Sultanate of Oman which is directed to support good efforts to achieve security, stability and peace in the Middle East region. She expressed her hope to visit the Sultanate of Oman in the near future and to see a near end to the crises in the Middle East region. — ONA
