Oman, Croatia vow to boost bilateral cooperation

Zagreb: Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister, met with Andrej Plenković, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia at the headquarters of the Presidency in the capital, Zagreb, on Wednesday.


The meeting comes as part of the foreign minister’s official visit to the friendly Republic of Croatia.


During the meeting, the two sides stressed their keenness to further fostering friendly relations and bilateral cooperation in various fields for the mutual benefits of the two countries and the two friendly peoples.


They exchanged views on a number of current regional and international issues, emphasizing the importance of supporting all peaceful efforts and boosting the rule of international law in order to strengthen positive cooperation and mutual respect in a way that secures the foundations of security and peace for all peoples.


The meeting was attended by Grlić Radma, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, Yousef bin Ahmed al Jabri, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Republic of Croatia, and a number of officials from both sides.


Meanwhile, the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Croatia held a political talks session in the Croatian capital, Zagreb to discuss ways of fostering bilateral cooperation relations and trade exchange and the promising sectors such as green economy, renewable energy, information technology, digital transformation, food security and tourism.


Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidy, Foreign Minister led the Sultanate of Oman’s side while the Croatian side was led by Grlić Radma, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs.


On the political aspect, the two sides exchanged views on the current regional and international developments, with special focus on war in Ukraine and its repercussions as well as the Israeli siege on the Gaza Strip.


Sayyid Badr stressed the necessity of urgently reaching a permanent ceasefire, facilitating flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and launching a political process to facilitate the two-state solution to achieve security and just and comprehensive peace in accordance with the rules of international law and the principle of justice for all.


The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of political consultations.


After that, the two ministers held a press conference in which they emphasized the history of good bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Croatia which are based on trust, mutual respect and bilateral cooperation and partnership in various economic, cultural and scientific fields.


The two sides agreed to sign more agreements, memorandum of understanding and cooperation programmes in various fields including education, culture, tourism, and renewable energy.


The two sides also discussed regional and international issues of common interest and agreed to continue their consultation and coordination within the framework of international organizations to address security, economic, climate and environmental challenges.


The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Croatia underscored the significance to end the war on the Gaza Strip, speed up delivery of humanitarian aid, and work hard to translate the existing international will and resolutions into a reality based on the two-state solution and the establishment of an autonomous Palestinian state to achieve just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
