Musat: More than 10 government and private institutions announced their support for the eleventh edition of the Fak Kurba Initiative at an annual meeting organized by the Omani Lawyers Association

This season, the initiative aims to release 1,500 prisoners.

Dr. Mohammed bin Ibrahim al Zadjali, Chairman of the Omani Lawyers Association, who supervises the initiative, said, "Since its launch, the initiative aims to relieve the distress of persons who are imprisoned by bringing joy and happiness to them and their families."

It may be noted that persons eligible to benefit under the initiative include those not benefited from the initiative during its previous editions, the debt must be related to commercial - civil - labor, or legal cases and not criminal.

"We received the initial lists of those eligible to be included in the initiative this year, and the number of names on these lists was 965 of those imprisoned or against whom a detention order was issued. Since the launch of the initiative in its 11th edition on March 3, around 50 cases have been released, followed by a large batch of those released in the coming days."

The amount of the claim should not exceed RO2,000, and the total number of claims shall not exceed RO2,000 for one insolvent person if there is more than one claim against him.

Donations are directed to deserving cases in coordination with government institutions and civil society.

The priority in payment will be given to the lesser claim to the oldest than the youngest.

It is worth noting that the initiative has contributed to the release of more than 5,890 cases since 2012.
