Muscat: Within the realm of diverse culinary preferences, Halal food has gained widespread popularity. However, a burgeoning concept that is gradually gaining momentum is halal tourism.

The Muslim travel market, boasting an estimated value of approximately $250 billion, is undergoing a rapid transformation. At the forefront of this evolution is the Halal Travel Guide (HTG), offering a tailored experience for Muslim travellers worldwide.

With a dedicated following across the UK, US, Europe, Indonesia and Malaysia, HTG boasts over 40,000 followers and subscribers through the HTG Club, establishing itself as a trendsetter in the industry.

Committed to crafting exceptional tours with Muslim travellers in mind, their group tours go beyond traditional sightseeing. Connecting participants with stories from Islamic heritage, breathtaking natural scenery and delectable halal food, HTG aims to foster lifelong memories and friendships.

Their mission is to make travel accessible, enjoyable and fulfilling for all, focusing on breaking down barriers and fostering connections. Collaborating closely with local guides and experts ensures unique and meaningful experiences that delve into local customs and traditions.

HTG founder Soumaya T Hamdi envisions a holistic approach to halal tourism as the market expands. Beyond catering to specific dietary needs and modest swimwear, HTG emphasises tourism that benefits local communities, destinations and travellers.

HTG collaborated with local partner Infinite Tours as they were thrilled to introduce an enchanting trip to Oman, known for preserving its rich heritage. This underscored the importance of working closely with reliable local partners to provide exceptional service.

The budget-friendly adventure through Oman showcased authenticity, excitement and new experiences. From exploring Muscat’s highlights to relaxing at Fins beach and spending a night under the star-filled sky at a Bedouin Desert Camp, the limited-edition trip showcased Oman’s beauty while supporting the local community.

For Muslim travellers seeking a deeper connection with the world, HTG invited enthusiasts to explore the wonders of Oman. The journey combined cultural immersion with breathtaking landscapes.

Soumaya’s personal journey into the world of travel, traversing diverse cultures with her family, led to a profound understanding of the importance of cultural sensitivity. Meeting Saud al Junaidy, Founder and General Manager of Infinite Tours, at World Travel Market in 2022 reinforced the shared values and vision for tourism.

Saud says it was a fulfilling journey partnering with HTG to operate the special Islamic tour of Oman. “Through showcasing Oman’s rich Islamic heritage, history and breathtaking natural sites, we aim to bridge cultural understanding. Interactions with Al Muatasim al Saadi, our guide, and the locals revealed Omanis’ profound religious tolerance, emphasising respect for diverse sects and religions. "This experience reinforced the beauty of unity in diversity, making Oman a beacon of harmony and coexistence,” he adds.

Soumaya further adds that Halal tourism extends beyond pilgrimage and enables Muslim travellers to explore the globe authentically. “Our approach prioritises cultural immersion, from relishing authentic local halal food to ensuring Muslim women can enjoy beach and pool experiences,” she mentions.

The trip was led by Giannisa Novi Budiutami, an Indonesian, and HTG Tour Leader. Others included participants from the UK such as Resham Mirza, Alan Smith, Haroon Jogyat, Aisha Patel, Sarika Khatun, Shamedha Khanom, Fhatama Begum and Hannah Hamid, all first time travellers to Oman.

Aisha Patel shares her experience, “Oman felt safe and welcoming, and the hospitality was second to none. I would recommend Oman as a destination in a heartbeat. The history, food, people and sights were all fascinating, and the attention to detail provided by Infinite Tours was greatly appreciated. Thank you for hosting us in your wonderful country. I’ll be back one day!”
