RO 40 million Dibba fishing port now 70% per cent

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources continues construction work on the project to develop the sea fishing port in the state of Dibba in the Musandam Governorate, where the completion rate has reached 70 per cent and at a total cost amounting to about RO 40 million.


Ahmed bin Ali al Aqabi, head of the fishing port in Dibba, said, "The project to develop the fishing port in the state of Dibba is one of the most important development projects in the governorate, and through it the ministry seeks to achieve economic diversification and create an attractive environment for investments and exploitation of fish resources through developing the fishing fleet and providing many public and private services inside the port."


He explained that the project includes four basic sectors, including the fishing sector, the tourism sector, the maritime transport and trade services sector, and the maritime security sector. The project consists of two breakwaters, with the main breakwater being 1,550 metres long, while the secondary breakwater is 500 metres long, with a deep harboru basin of up to 8 metres, floating moorings, a 130-metre-long docking beach for small boats, a boat slip, a crane for ships and boats with a capacity of more than 150 tonnes.


There is also a fish market, an ice factory, a building for marine workshops, fishermen’s warehouses, and various commercial shops according to the needs of the port , a prayer hall, the administration building, the passenger building, and other service buildings, in addition to allocating an area of 5,000 square meters for investment in a tourist hotel, restaurant complexes, and tourist services.


This is in addition to facilities for the transportation and trade sector, special sidewalks for each sector, reclaiming spaces for commercial buildings and establishments, and internal road paving work, including electricity, lighting, water network connection, and rainwater drainage works.


Al Aqabi said construction work is continuing with great efforts to complete the project according to a specific time plan, and it is hoped that the port will contribute to supporting the national economy, revitalising the economic movement in the governorate, facilitating the movement of shipping and landing, and providing new job opportunities for citizens, in addition to facilitating and enhancing tourism movement as the Governorate is witnessing remarkable growth. — ONA
