SILHAVY ANNOUNCES OMAN FOOTBALL SQUAD FOR MALAYSIA TEST

The newly appointed head coach of Oman national football team, Jaroslav Silhavy, announced on Saturday the first squad of Red Warriors under his charge. The declared squad featured recalling of several former players for national team squad namely: Mohammed al Musallami, Abdulaziz al Maqbali, Hatim al Roshdi and Mohammed al Ghafri.


The first official assignment for the Czech coach will be the joint qualifiers for World Cup 2026 and Asian Cup 2027, as Oman team will meet Malaysia twice in the third and fourth round of the double qualifiers respectively. The Red Warriors will take Malaysia in Muscat on March 21, and then play away in Kuala Lumpur on March 26.


Oman team players will began their actual technical preparation for the matches by a domestic camp which will start on Wednesday under the supervision of the recently appointed coach Jaroslav Silhavy and his assistant coaching staff.


Oman, under the new coaching staff, will eye on a different show and beginning a new chapter that will ensure the team’s presence in the top footballing event represented in Fifa World Cup 2026. Oman is gearing up for the third and fourth games in the Asian joint qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup and Fifa World Cup in group D which featured Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan and Chinese Taipei. Oman’s game against Malaysia in Muscat on March 21 will be played at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex and the game will start at 10:00 pm (Oman time), while the away match in Kuala Lumpur on March 26 will take place in the national stadium Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur city and the match will begin at 6:00 pm (Oman time).


The national team’s campaign started with a 2-0 win against Chinese Taipei but then shocked with a 1-0 defeat against Kyrgyzstan in Bishkek in their second match. The 62-year-old coach will work during this camp on shaping the players readiness for the forthcoming essential matches. The Czech coach observed many players during the couple days ago in Muscat during the top flight league and the HM Cup matches.


Coach Silhavy signed a two-year contract with the Oman Football Association (OFA) in February to replace the Croatian coach Branko Ivankovic whose contract was not renewed after the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar. He served as manager of the Czech national team from 2018-2023.
