Muscat: With the Sultanate frequently exposed to various natural disasters such as flash floods, and tropical weather systems, including cyclones, the authorities last year launched an alert notification system, which will help minimize damages, including loss of human lives.

The early warning broadcast service via mobile phones sends warning messages (in various languages) in record time to thousands of devices in any targeted area. The messages sent on Friday read as follows:

Alert Muscat governorate will be affected by heavy to very heavy rainfall may cause strong flashfloods starting from Friday evening until Sunday. Please take maximum precaution and follow the bulletins from National Center for early Warning of Multiple Hazards.
