Muscat: Several governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, including the capital Muscat, are witnessing rain of varying intensity on the coasts of the governorates of South al Batinah and Muscat and parts of South al Sharqiyah, North al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, and Al Dhahirah.


Major traffic disruptions have been not reported from any part of the capital.


The wilayat of Saham witnessed heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, causing most of the wadis to flow.


There are chances of low levels of horizontal visibility due to thunderstorms and hail.


"Thunderstorms associated with downdraft, fresh winds, and hail will continue on Wednesday over the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhyliah, Muscat, North al Sharqiyah, South al Sharqiyah, and Al Wusta governorates with precipitation ranging from 20 mm to 60 mm, which will lead to flash floods, while the chances of varying intensity rainfall will continue over rest of northern governorates."


Alerts:


• Heavy thundershowers with hail are expected ranging (from 20-60 mm) and may cause flash floods (Wadis).


• Strong downdraft active winds with speeds ranging from 15 - 40 knots (28 - 64 km/h).


• Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and the Sea of Oman coasts (2-3.5 meters).


• Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.

Stay away from the stream and low areas.


Avoid getting close to the edges of the wadies and heights.


Watch your children and do not allow them to get near any water body.


Switch off any unnecessary electrical switches.


Stay away from the streetlight poles and mind any hanging wires.


Follow the weather forecasts from the official sources.


Avoid leaving the house if you are suffering from any respiratory disease (like asthma).
