Muscat: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) has announced the opening of registration for the new health sector challenges of the Strategic Research Program until April 30.


This year, the Ministry of Health has identified the topics “Mental Health” and “Health Systems Financing” as research priorities. For the Mental Health research priority, interested applicants should focus on tackling the challenges posed by mental health conditions and related illnesses, elevating the welfare of the community and the standard of care provided, advancing decision-making processes that are informed by scientific evidence, and fortifying collaborations across various disciplines to meet health objectives.


As for the Health Systems Financing research priority, interested applicants should focus on enhancing the efficiency and performance of health systems, boosting transparency, accountability, and fairness, augmenting patients’ interactions and experiences with the healthcare system, increasing the quality of and access to healthcare services, bolstering decision-making processes informed by evidence, and fortifying collaborations across various disciplines to meet health objectives.


The evaluation of research proposals is based on the criteria of research excellence, the criteria for linking to institutional challenges, the impact of the research outputs and their applicability, with the priority be given to research proposals and projects that serve a set of national priorities. Interested applicants can submit their research proposal through the Research Information Management System (RIMS) at the Oman Research Portal.


The Strategic Research Program aims to focus on national priorities to find scientific and applied solutions through competitive research proposals, enhance constructive cooperation between the parties to the research system (governmental, academic and private sectors), and make recommendations to create or update policies, legislation and general procedures.
