NAIROBI: The Sultanate of Oman's Dr Abdullah bin Ali al Amri was elected President of the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi on Friday. Oman delegation is headed by Dr Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority.

The selection of the Sultanate of Oman as president of the session reflects the extent of the international community’s confidence in it, its pioneering role in protecting the environment and preserving its natural resources, and its position in support of international efforts aimed at preserving the environment.

The United Nations Environment Assembly is one of the most important international associations and the highest body in the United Nations concerned with environmental affairs. It has an active role in protecting ecosystems and biodiversity, combating desertification, supporting the green and circular economy, and reducing pollution. Its decisions also have an important role in shaping the environmental future.

At the meeting, world leaders expressed determination to accelerate multilateral action on the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature loss and pollution.
