GCC nationals, Indians top visitors to the Sultanate

Muscat: Around 1.2 million GCC nationals visited the Sultanate of Oman until the end of September this year.


They were followed by Indian nationals (463,000), Yemenis (108,000), Chinese (97,000), and Germans (96,000).


Around 2.9 million visitors arrived in the Sultanate during the same period.


Total revenues of the hotels (3-5 star) were RO154 million, while the number of guests was 1.4 million.

There has been an increase of 7.6 percent in total inbound visitors, of which 45.6 percent were from the GCC and 31.4 percent of Asian nationalities in the month of September.


The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism is targeting total investments worth RO3 billion during the period 2021-2025 and increasing the number of hotel rooms to 33,000 by the end of 2025, in addition to raising the tourism sector’s contribution to GDP from 2.75 percent to 3 percent.

It may be noted that the number of passengers using the Muscat International Airport increased 36 percent to 1,053,254 in September 2023 compared to the same period last year, according to the figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).


During the same period, aircraft movement at Muscat Airport increased by 30 percent to 8,835 in 2023 from 6,802 in 2022.


The number of passengers using Salalah Airport increased 28 percent to 122,289 in June 2023 compared to 95,563 during the same period last year.


Aircraft movement at Salalah increased by 19 percent to 1,183 in 2023 from 998 in 2022.
