MUSCAT: The International Series underscored their commitment to development of golf at the grassroots level in Oman, with a contribution of $US 25,000 to the Oman Golf Federation in support of its ongoing efforts to encourage more participation in the region.

The presentation was made by Rahul Singh, Head of The International Series and Cho Minn Thant, Commissioner and CEO of the Asian Tour, to Eng Munthir bin Salim al Barwani, Chairman of the Oman Golf Association, on the sidelines of the International Series Oman, the first of 10 upper-tier Asian Tour-sanctioned events that provide a pathway to the LIV Golf League.

Singh said: “We recognise the important role that The International Series has to play in the wider golf ecosystem, and part of that is giving something back to the host communities that support our tournaments.

“Our contribution to the Oman Golf Association is a sustainable commitment that will help in the development of golf in the region, bringing golf to a wider demographic, enabling the discovery and unlocking the potential of the untapped talent in this region.”

Al Barwani added: “This significant contribution will help us in our ongoing quest to bring golf to a bigger demographic, and to provide newcomers with the tools they need to develop and grow their skills, and enjoy this wonderful sport which can form part of a healthy and active lifestyle for all ages.”

During tournament week, the Oman Golf Association brought several youngsters to Al Mouj Golf for a special clinic and to experience the build up to the event, which brings big names from the LIV Golf League and the cream of the Asian Tour to Oman.

The Oman Golf Association is committed to the development of golf in the region through two campaigns. The OGA have introduced the R&A’s Unleash Your Drive campaign in collaboration with The Golf Foundation, a six-week introduction to the game for primary school children that teaches youngsters golf skills and mental toughness.

A ‘Go Ladies’ campaign is part of OGA efforts to introduce the sport to females as part of the ‘Women in Golf’ charter they signed in 2018. The campaign provides lessons to women in four of five golf clubs across the Sultanate of Oman.
