

MUSCAT: Yohann Chacko Peter from the Sultanate of Oman created history at the first UAE International Karate Open Kata/Kumite Tournament held recently in Fujairah, UAE. He bagged the gold medal, at under 12 years and 45 kg category.
The tournament, organised by UAE Karate Federation and Team Sports Events, supported by the UAE National Olympic Committee and the World Karate Federation, was held at the Zayed Sports Complex from February 16 to 18, with the participants of 22 countries.
Yohann represented Ali al Raisi Karate Club in Bausher. He faced tough competition during the knock-out rounds against opponents from Russia, Kuwait, UAE and others.
He was trained under top karate masters namely, Ali al Raisi, Senseis, Meysam Adhami, Abulrahman, Hawra and Hossein Parsi Aziz.
Yohann acknowledges his supportive Senseis, teachers and parents for their unwavering encouragement and guidance. With determination, he plans to intensify his training efforts and is eager to participate in upcoming tournaments in Oman and abroad.
Yohann bagged the Oman Karate Champions National Tournament gold medal in kumite and bronze in kata in December and June 2022 at the Tbilisi (Georgia) Grand Prix International Tournament.
His earlier achievements included bagging gold medal in kumite, silver in kata and silver in team kata during the 7th International Karate Pioneers Championship Tournament held at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in 2023.
He also bagged the gold medal at the 6th International Karate Pioneers Championship Tournament for kumite, silver in kata and gold in team kata at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in March 2023. The Grade 5 student of Indian School Bausher, Yohann is a native of Kumbanad, Pathanamthitta District, Kerala, India.
