The (Enhance sport global) ESG Football Academy Under 16 Elite Girls’ football team travelled to Abu Dhabi at the weekend to participate in the Abu Dhabi Manchester City Cup.

The tournament attracted girl's teams from Dubai, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia & Abu Dhabi.

The ESG Girls tournament started badly with one player succumbing to a serious injury and being taken to hospital.

This set-back fuelled their determination to succeed, demonstrating superb team interaction, technical skills and gameplay , they won their next three matches gaining a place in the semi final where they were eventual losers to the very strong Go-Pro Academy team.

ESG were placed 3rd in the tournament which was a fine achievement for the Girls.

This is their second international competition to date, where the girls have shown resilience and fierce determination to succeed. The whole weekend has been a wonderful experience for them, enabling them to further develop their special bond as a team which was evident both on and off the pitch.

ESG Director & Coach Jay, said: "The girls have done themselves proud, despite them being disappointed not to reach the final - but this shows how passionate they are about their game and will hopefully encourage them to work even harder. Their confidence levels are growing as a result of this experience and their successes, I am incredibly proud of their achievement.

I’d like to say a special thank you to Mani’s Cafe for showing a keen interest and supporting the Girls on this trip.

And wishing our player Rita a speedy recovery after the serious injury she suffered.

We hope to see you back on the field soon.”

The ESG Football Academy were strongly represented in the tournament, with ESG Under 16 and Under 10 boys elite teams. The Under 16 team who finished the tournament unbeaten, also taking 3rd place.

The girls will travel to Qatar for their next tournament in April.
