ADAM: Camels from the UAE won major titles at the seventh annual Al Bashayer Camel Festival which ended in the Wilayat of Adam on Saturday.
‘Dorah’ snatched the Al Bashayer cup and Eltemas’ got the second cup. 'Samha’ won the golden sword and 'Al Dhabi’ the silver sword.
His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, presented the awards in the presence of ministers and dignitaries
The final competition included four main races for a distance of 8 km. Two races were for individuals with SUV cars as prizes for the winners and two races were for organisations. The camel owners got the Cup and a car in the first two races. The winner in the fourth race received the golden sword and a SUV car, while the third race winners awarded silver sword and an SUV.
‘Dorah’, coached by UAE Mohammed bin Zaytoon al Mehari, snatched Al Bashayer cup and SUV car in the opening round of organisations category after she finished the race in 12:43:67.
‘Eltemas’, coached by Oman's Hilal bin Abdullah al Shedi, claimed the second cup and SUV in the individual category after she completed 8 km in 12 munities and 53.02 seconds.
‘Al Dhabi’, owned by UAE's Mohammed bin Sultan al Kettebi, bagged the silver sword and SUV in the third round of the individual category in a record time of 12 minutes and 38.62 seconds.
UAE's ‘Samha’, coached by Mohammed bin Zaytoon al Mehari, clinched the golden sword and SUV in the organisations category, after she clocked the race in 12:45:24.
Al Shedi, the owner of ‘Eltemas’, said after snatching the second cup: ” I would like to thank God for this triumph. Special thanks goes to the festival supporter, Oman government and His HS Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said. Al Bashayer cup is ranked as the top prize to everyone. I am proud to be on the podium to receive the cup.
“‘Eltemas’ is one of the best camels in this race. Three weeks ago, I managed to win the Oman Camel Federation cup and today we had another victory. Moreover, I hope to be on time at the conclusion of the Royal camel Corps competition after three weeks."
The six-day race was held at Al Bashayer Square in Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
Over 4,000 camels from Oman and other GCC countries competed in 74 rounds in different categories.
