'Al Muheat' wins 12 km race for second time

The competitions of the 7th edition of the annual Al Bashayer Camel Festival continued on Thursday at Al Bashayer Square in the Wilayat of Adam in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The 6th day of competitions witnessed participation of 4,000 people including the owners from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, and GCC countries.

There were three races allocated for the ‘Thanaya’ category (5-years-old camels) for a distance of 8 km. Four races were allocated for the ‘Al Hawl’ category ( 6 years and above). Both categories have cash prizes for the top 10.


In the afternoon competitions for human riders rounds, two races were for 1,500 metres with cash prizes for the top 10. While the main race was for 12 km where the winner will receive a SUV car and cash prizes for the top 10.


The opening round was won by ‘Mallouh’, owned by Hamad bin Ghanem al Dhaheri from the UAE. ‘Nasi,’ owned by Mohammed bin Humaid al Wahaibi, claimed the second round. ‘Arbah’, owned by Hamad bin Ghanem al Dhaheri from the UAE, topped the third round. UAE's Al Dhaheri claimed the hat-trick when his 'Jeyan' won the fourth round.


‘Malbi’, owned by Salem bin Ali al Ghailani, won the fifth round. ‘Rahiya,’ owned by Hamad bin Mohammed al Wahaibi claimed the sixth round. The last round in the morning was won by ‘Qanaah', owned by the festival host, Hejen Al Bashayer, coached by Badar Al Hamdi al Darai. ‘Qanaah' finished the race in 13 minutes and 56 seconds.


At the afternoon competition with human riders for 1.5 km. ‘Shwasharah’, owned by Ahmed bin Hamed al Amri snatched the first round, while 'Takreem‘, owned by Sultan Sulayimal Jahwari, snatched the second round.


In a challenging 12-km race, defending champion 'Al Muheat,’ owned by Saad bin Hamed al Junaibi, retained the title and won sword and SUV car.

Abdullah bin Salem al Junaibi, director of Al Bashayer Square Department for Arab Camel, handed the awards to the winners.


The concluding ceremony will be held on Saturday afternoon. The competition will include 4 main races. Two races will be for individuals with SUV prizes for the winners and the other two will be for organisations. The camel owners will compete for the Cup and a car in the first two races. The winner in the fourth race will have the golden sword and a SUV car, while the third race winner will get a silver sword and a SUV car.
