The Sultanate of Oman and Kuwait have strong brotherly relations that witness development in various fields, including educational and cultural.

Omani-Kuwaiti relations have been able to go beyond the traditional nature of relations between brotherly countries, thanks to the common and mutual will.

This has developed to build on their achievements to keep pace with the deep ties, pride, appreciation, and ongoing friendliness between the leaderships of the two countries. The tangible benefits extend to all aspects and levels of relations between the two countries and the brotherly Omani and Kuwaiti peoples.

Oman and Kuwait share close relations at the cultural and artistic levels, and there are many joint programmes, events, agreements, and memorandums of understanding between the two countries in the field of higher education, training, exchange of scientific and student experiences, as well as scholarships.

The existing cooperation agreement in the field of higher education between the two countries has achieved fruitful cooperation. Last year, Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training allocated several scholarships to Omani students.

Cultural and social cooperation extended its cultural influences with the marriage of some Omani families to Kuwait in 1910, who were shipbuilders, and the transfer of some social influences from Muscat to Kuwait.

Several memorandums of understanding and programmes have contributed to opening broader horizons for cooperation between the two countries. This includes MoUs in the fields of diplomatic studies and training, higher education, competition protection, and monopoly prevention.

Other fields include the executive programme for cooperation in the field of environmental protection from 2021-2024 and the executive programme for cooperation in the field of industrial export development from 2023-2025.

The Kuwaiti-Omani relations are characterised by distinct relations that carry common features based on the unity of a common destiny, goal, and identical visions. The two countries seek to achieve integration and interconnection in the educational field.

Heba Abbas, Technical advisor, and head of the Sustainability Committee, Kuwait Water Association, told the Observer, “On the occasion of the auspicious visit of Sheikh Mishal Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, “we stand on the verge of a historic moment that reflects the depth and strength of bilateral relations between our countries. This visit not only represents an affirmation of the strong fraternal ties that unite our two peoples, but also opens new horizons for cooperation in various economic, cultural, educational, and scientific fields.”

She added that “In light of this honourable visit, we look forward to exploring new opportunities for cooperation that will benefit our two peoples, especially in the areas of sustainable development, innovation, and scientific research, which in turn will contribute to achieving prosperity for both countries. We also stress the importance of joint action to support stability and peace in the region, and to promote intercultural dialogue.”
