Muscat: The Buraimi Winter Festival in the Wilayat of Al Buraimi attracted more than 159,000 visitors, according to the statistics issued by the Al Buraimi Governor’s Office. The second phase of the festival will be launched in the Wilayat of Mahdha, followed by the Wilayat of Al Sinainah.
Salem bin Namshan al Kaabi, Director of the Events and Awareness Department at the Al Buraimi Governor’s Office, said that the 10-day event witnessed heavy presence of visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman. There was a huge turnout even from the beginning due to the extensive coverage on traditional and social media.
159,013 visitors included Omanis, residents, and international tourists. The festival saw participation of 20 small and medium enterprises, nine communities, 35 productive families, 20 restaurant owners. Around 70 events were organised during the festival.
Al Kaabi said the festival included theatre, the heritage village, competitions, and accompanying activities.
He stressed that the event boosted tourism and the local economy, pointing to the high occupancy rate in hotels in the governorate and the increase in purchasing activity in its markets.
