Lantern-lit exhibit is a journey to abstract realms and bold visions

Kurian Joshi takes you on an artistic journey illuminated by a lantern.


Artist Kurian Joshi's solo exhibition, titled 'Lantern - Lighting the Imagination,' is being held at the Art & Soul Gallery in Muscat and will continue until February 10th.


The exhibition, inaugurated on January 25th, showcases a range of Kurian Joshi’s works, reflecting years of creative exploration and genius. The overarching theme is abstract.



“Oman has always inspired me with its culture and landscapes,” shared Joshi in a conversation with the Observer.


On display are 32 paintings, including two portraits of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said.


“Each portrait took one month to finish. Alongside these, there are paintings tracing my journey from 1992, and there is a new collection,” explained Joshi, who extends his passion and artistic skill to the world of advertising.


Although Joshi's career in Oman has predominantly been in advertising and design, he has consistently nurtured the artist within him.



Running until February 10th, the exhibition encapsulates a fusion of abstract and realistic paintings. Joshi's works delve into the essence of life and intellectual reflections, predominantly focusing on the theme of Oman.


Kurian Joshi stated, “My creations are intimate records of the resonances I feel within, offering a glimpse into my artistic journey. I invite everyone to share in this experience, and I hope this exhibition provides an exhilarating and enriching experience for all art enthusiasts.”



For art lovers, whether the paintings are abstract or realistic, it is his bold brushstrokes that leave an impact.


Kurian Joshi, with over 40 years of experience in the communication industry, began his career in sculpture and clay modeling. He is renowned for his adaptive thinking and eagerness to learn.


Joshi's career path has seen him in different roles, ranging from a creative director, managing advertising for diverse brands, to expertise in cartoons, caricatures, and illustrations.



His other significant roles include working at the India International Trade Fair in New Delhi and serving as an Art Director for National Award-winning Indian film director Bharathan. Additionally, he ran a Design House in India focusing on corporate design. His accolades include the Cresta Merit Award for Sadolin Paints in Advertising and an award for the Oasis Water brand.
