MUSCAT: The recently concluded Fazza Championship for Open Shooting witnessed a turnout of Omani players, showcasing their prowess and securing notable positions across various categories.


Organised by the Fazza Championships at the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Center, this annual event took place at the shooting range in the Ruwayyah area of Dubai.


With over 2,000 participants from both genders from different nationalities within and outside the UAE, featuring strong competition in various categories dedicated to men, women, juniors, senior participants and clay pigeon shooting.


The final competitions began with the men's target shooting finals, where Omani shooter Mohammed bin Ahmed al Ameri secured first place, surpassing a perfect score of 80 (5 Xs). Khalid bin Ali Hubeis came in second place with a score of 80 (4 Xs), while Mohammed bin Abdullah al


Shabnoti secured third place with a score of 80 (3 Xs).


In the clay pigeon shooting competitions, characterised by competitors sprinting to pick up the weapon and then aiming to hit the targets, Omani dominance was evident. The duo of Younis bin Hamad al Siyabi and Awf bin Khaseib al Aufi clinched first place and achieved the fastest time in the history of all editions of the Fazza Championship for Skeet Shooting, clocking in at 5.42 seconds, reflecting the high level of competition in the current edition. In second place were Hisham bin Khalfan al Siyabi and Khalid bin Khalfan al Siyabi, while Mahmoud bin Saeed al Toubi and Sakhr bin Saeed al Toubi secured third place.

In the senior participants category, Saleh bin Salem al Balushi claimed first place with a score of 80 (6 Xs), followed by Salem bin Ali al Haf with a score of 79 (4 Xs) in second place, and Muslim bin Bakheet Jaaboub with a score of 79 (4 Xs) in third place.


In the junior category, shooter Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Hatmi secured first place with a score of 80 (5 Xs), followed by Mohammed bin Salem al Deree with a score of 80 (4 Xs) in second place, and Mohammed bin Saeed al Badi with a score of 79 (4 Xs) in third place.


Participant Khalid al Sinani commented on the competition, "This edition witnessed very strong competition, with the perfect score of 80/80 being achieved nearly 15 times by Omani shooters in all categories."


Al Sinani added regarding his preparation for the competition: "We were aware of the intensity of the competition in this edition, and we made sure to prepare and train intensively before it started. Valuable prizes were offered in the competition, motivating the best shooters to


participate with the aim of winning."


Al Sinani called on authorities to reduce ammunition taxes, expressing his desire to open up opportunities for stores to sell ammunition and support this sport. He emphasised the constant presence of Omani youth to uphold the name of the Sultanate of Oman in all forums, urging them to


train and raise awareness about this ancient sport inherited from their ancestors.
