SUHAR: The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Suhar Hospital, in collaboration with the National Heart Centre, performed 42 pacemaker implantation surgeries since the laboratory opened in February last year.
Dr Najeeb bin Zahran al Rawahi, Director of the National Heart Centre, said that performing this type of operation outside Muscat Governorate comes within the framework of the Ministry of Health’s decentralization strategy that aims at providing health services and necessary care for patients and reducing waiting lists.
The partnership between the National Heart Centre and Suhar Hospital started in 2009 by establishing a clinic at Suhar Hospital for patients having heart arrhythmia and following up on patients who undergo pacemaker implantation surgeries in Suhar Hospital. The clinic, managed by a senior consultant in electrocardiology from the National Heart Centre, examined more than 600 patients, he said.
It is noteworthy that the cardiac catheterization laboratory at Suhar Hospital has two rooms for performing catheterization operations equipped with the latest medical technologies for performing heart, arterial, and cerebral vessel catheterization operations. A post-cardiac catheterization ward has also been established with 22 beds in addition to a special heart care unit with 12 beds.
