Thrilling competitions in youth and children categories of Al Mouj Muscat Marathon

MUSCAT: Abdullah al Qarini bagged the gold medal in the Men’s 5 km Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2024 on Saturday. The runner completed the race within a timing of 14:42 minutes to end as the champion of this race category. More than 7,300 participants took part in this category of Marathon event. Salim al Rashdi ended as runners-up of the race as he clocked 14:54 minutes while Nasr al Naabi followed him in third place with a timing of 15:01. The participants of this category aged 12 and above.


Oman’s Rahela AbdolAmir claimed the crown in the Women’s 5 km Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2024 after she registered a timing of 20:53 minutes. She was followed by Umaima Harib Mohammed with 22:32 and India's Vibha Ramachandrappa clocking 22:58 minutes.


In the 3 km event for youth and children, Waassam al Mahrami came first following his timing of 9:07 minutes and Shayaan Ghori finished second after he registered 10:33 minutes while Zaid al Dhammari completed the race in the third place with a timing of 11:20 minutes.

In the girl’s category, Tara Khan topped the group in this category as she was the first female athlete to end the race within a timing of 11:45 minutes. Reem al Harthi finished as second as she clocked 12:18 minutes to clinch the silver medal while Aseela al Busaidi came in third as she registered a timing of 12:39 minutes.


In the 2 km for kids, Turki al Sudairi claimed first spot with a timing of 2:18 minutes followed by Aws al Fahdi in second place as he registered a timing of 3:16 while Malik Ahmed ended in third position and clocked 4:09 minutes. In the women's section, Layla al Khalili won the top prize with a timing of 7:39 while Afnan al Reimi came in second place after she clocked 8:49 while Mairaa Kapoor of Canada finished in third spot with a timing of 9:16.


At the 1 km race for kids, Syrian boy Tariq Bairakdar won the first spot after he completed the race within a 2:22 minutes while Mashari Abdulaziz al Balushi came in second with a timing of 2:39 minutes and Osama al Bahri in third place after he clocked 3:32 minutes.

The senior marathon categories completed on Friday after Kenyan athlete Kibiwott claimed the men’s crown in the 42.2 km Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2024 while Ethiopians Berhanu Tarto (2:13:15) was second and Tsega Diriba (2: 17:13) finished third. More than 12,000 runners from across the world took part in the Al Mouj Muscat for the elite marathon races.


After the completion of the races, Ahmed Al Azkawi (OQ upstream CEO), Mohammed Al Amri ( Director-General of Sports Activities in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, Sayyid Khalid al Busaidi and Sayyid Ayman al Busaidi from Sabco Group, presented awards to the winners.
