Muscat: The Education endowment foundation, 'Siraj', launched its new initiative titled 'University Student Sponsorship' under the patronage of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation.

The initiative aims to support university students from financially disadvantaged or needy families, who study in private higher education institutions and do not receive financial support from other sources. It provides monthly financial assistance covering transportation, rent, and living expenses, to enable students to focus on their studies without worrying about financial problems.

Dr Rahma stated that the 'University Student Sponsorship' initiative aims to provide effective and tangible support to university students from financially disadvantaged families. "The initiative seeks to provide financial assistance to alleviate the financial burden on students and enable them to focus on their studies without worry," she said, adding that everyone is invited to be part of this initiative and contribute actively to support university students.

Participation in this initiative can be through financial support, volunteering, or even raising awareness about it. Everyone has a crucial role in achieving this goal, reflecting solidarity and social responsibility.

Dr Rahma emphasised the importance of this initiative and the role of the public in its success. Through solidarity and collaboration, we can build a better future for young people and empower them to access higher education without financial barriers.

Mahmoud bin Khalafan al Hadidi, CEO of the charitable foundation for supporting education 'Siraj', said in his opening speech, that the 'University Student Sponsorship' initiative is not just an educational project but a commitment and promise to future generations for a prosperous and bright future. It is a message of hope and determination, inviting everyone to be part of this wonderful humanitarian fabric, to collectively build a future that befits the dreams and aspirations of our youth.

He emphasised that the initiative follows a rigorous selection process based on several criteria. Representatives from social development committees and higher education institutions review applications and select students based on financial need and academic excellence. Once selected, the sponsorship is available for one academic year and can be renewed annually based on the student's progress and continued financial need.

Al Hadidi noted that students' academic progress is monitored through grade reports and evaluations provided by higher education institutions. Students must maintain a certain academic level to continue receiving sponsorship.
