Muscat: Due to the presence of some medical conditions that currently require platelets, the Central Blood Bank has appealed to donors to quickly donate platelets as it needs more than 12 platelet donors daily.
Although the number of blood donors increases every year, it is noted that the stock of blood types continues to decrease most of the time as a result of the increasing demand for blood units, as the demand increases by up to 12 percent annually.
Due to the cancellation of several blood donation campaigns recently and to avoid a decrease in the stock of blood units, the Blood Bank urged donors to take the initiative to donate blood at the Central Blood Bank in Bausher as it needs 800 blood donors during this week.
"Donating blood has many health benefits, including stimulating the bone marrow to produce new blood cells and increasing blood circulation activity. Moreover, donating blood helps reduce the level of iron in the blood, which is considered one of the causes of heart disease and clogged arteries," the blood bank said.
