Muscat: Gulf Drilling, which is a subsidiary of Mohammed Al Barwani Petroleum Services (MBPS), has been recognized and awarded as the “Large Contractor” winner of the OPAL Award for best practice 2023 in the “Omanization” category - empowering Omanis. The award ceremony took place this week under the auspices of HE. Engineer Salim Al Aufi, Ministry of Energy and Minerals.

Engineer Salim Al Harthy, CEO of MBPS Worldwide, said: “I am thrilled with the team’s success. Empowering Omanis is a core part of our pillars to achieve our goals and deliver value safely to our clients. Our team is constantly developing our local talents, and are proud of achieving +85% omanization.”

Mr. Khalifa Al Naamani, Human Resources General Manager at MBPS, added: “There were significant projects which contributed to us receiving the ‘Omanization’ category award in the ‘Large Contractor’ segment. This included the Drilling Fluids Program which trains Drilling fluids engineers for 18 months to enter the field. We additionally actively conduct cross-postings to send our colleagues to MBPS subsidiaries outside of Oman to gain global experience. Finally, last year we enrolled over 25 employees in a specialized Leadership Program delivered by Harvard Business School. Many of these initiatives are organized by our in-house training institute, MBti, which supports employees but also conducts training for external clients.”

MBPS is planning further initiatives to empower Omanis in the Oil and Gas industry. For example, the MBti Institute has launched several additional HSE courses and soft-skills courses, which will help prepare the path for more Omanis to lead their organizations’ future.
