Muscat: Sixty-six expatriate workers have been arrested in Barka for violation of the provisions of the Labour Law and legal actions have been taken against them.

The arrest was made as part of the efforts to ensure their adherence to the provisions of the Labour Law and its regulations.

The inspection was carried out by the Directorate-General of Labour Welfare.

The Ministry of Labour and the Security and Safety Corporation in December signed an agreement to provide security support services and operate the labour welfare facilities.

The scope of the agreement includes transporting violators to the labour welfare facilities, the Ministry of Labour, Public Prosecution, or any relevant entity within the inspection system.

It also includes regulating workers violating the Labour Law, providing security, operational maintenance, and other necessary services to operate and manage labour welfare activities.

Major General Abdullah bin Ali al Harthi, Chairman of Security and Safety Corporation, said, "This system will be accompanied by training for the human workforce and logistical preparedness. There will also be arrangements for accommodation facilities, facilitating integration within the legal frameworks of relevant authorities. Additionally, this agreement opens up avenues for more job opportunities in the security and safety sector, contributing to the labour market's development and stability."

Dr Mahad bin Said Baowain, Minister of Labour, said, "The role undertaken by the inspection sector requires a qualitative proficiency that enables it to perform its tasks with effectiveness and quality. We aim to enhance this through the memorandum of cooperation that we have signed with the Security and Safety Corporation to establish a joint inspection unit. It aligns closely with the objectives of the national vision."
