MUSCAT: SOHAR Port and Freezone, a leading industrial port company in Oman, is taking significant steps to support the global shift towards a sustainable future. Emile Hoogsteden, CEO of SOHAR, emphasised the company's commitment to sustainability and innovation at the recent Green Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition Oman, aligning with Oman Vision 2040.

At the summit, SOHAR showcased its ambitious roadmap to carbon neutrality and energy transition. One of the key focus areas of this roadmap is tenant decarbonisation plans, aimed at encouraging industrial tenants to reduce their carbon footprint. By collaborating with these tenants, SOHAR aims to create a sustainable and eco-friendly ecosystem within its port and freezone facilities.

Renewable energy integration is another crucial aspect of SOHAR's sustainability efforts. The company plans to establish solar parks and tidal projects to harness renewable sources of energy. By leveraging these initiatives, SOHAR aims to reduce its reliance on non-renewable energy sources and significantly decrease its carbon emissions.

In addition to renewable energy, SOHAR is also embracing the use of clean hydrogen for green manufacturing. Hydrogen is an alternative to traditional fossil fuels and can be used in the production of various materials including steel, ammonia, methanol, and aluminum. By adopting clean hydrogen technologies, SOHAR aims to minimise its environmental impact and contribute to sustainable manufacturing practices.

SOHAR's commitment to sustainability and innovation is further reinforced through its collaborations with industrial tenants. By working closely with these tenants, SOHAR aims to promote the adoption of sustainable practices throughout their operations. This collaboration also lays the foundation for the formation of the SOHAR Net Zero Alliance, a vital initiative that aims to play a pivotal role in achieving Oman's goal of becoming net-zero by 2050.

SOHAR Port and Freezone is leading the way in driving sustainable development in Oman. Through its commitment to carbon neutrality, renewable energy integration, and the use of clean hydrogen, SOHAR is actively contributing to the nation's long-term vision for a sustainable future. The formation of the SOHAR Net Zero Alliance further demonstrates the company's dedication to collaboration and collective action towards achieving Oman's ambitious sustainability goals.
