Oman, Korea ink MoU to support green transformation

MUSCAT: Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals signed an MoU with the Republic of Korea represented by the Ministry of Environment to collaborate in the field of green transformation and energy sustainability.


Signing on behalf of the Sultanate of Oman was Eng Salem bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and on the Korean side, by Han Hwa-Jin, Minister of Environment. The two countries pledged to support global efforts to accelerate cooperation in the field of green transformation policies and technologies between them.


The MoU urges the two sides to cooperate in the areas, policies and programs of green transformation and sustainable technologies for the environment in the production, storage, delivery and use of green energy, capacity building to respond to the climate crisis, industries that contribute to green transformation, research and development activities between the competent authorities in the two countries, education and awareness about green transformation.


Oman has adopted a strategy to reduce carbon emissions, achieve a balance between sustainable development, limit the repercussions of climate change, benefit from clean technology and diversify energy sources, in line with the steps taken to achieve zero carbon neutrality in 2050.


The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is working to establish local and international partnerships that contribute to achieving its orientations towards green energy according to the national strategy for an orderly transition to the zero neutrality plan, and has actually started working on clean energy projects by launching green hydrogen investment packages. — ONA
