South Indian-based shipbuilder Samudra Shipyard has signed an MoU with OTE Group of the Sultanate of Oman for the establishment of a boat building yard in Oman with an investment of over RO 1 million.
Separately, Samudra Shipyard has inked a deal with a Muscat-based entrepreneur for the purchase of a houseboat for their Bell Farms resort in the south Indian state of Kerala.
The two MoUs were signed against the backdrop of a seminar organised by the Indo Gulf Middle East Chamber of Commerce (Oman Chapter), in collaboration with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (OCCI) Foreign Investment Committee. The event was held under the auspices of Shaikh Faisal al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI, and attended by industry experts, government officials, and business leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities in the Oman fisheries sector.
The seminar was the first by the newly formed Foreign Investment Committee of OCCI under the chairmanship of Abdul Latheef, the expatriate member on the board of OCCI and held in association with the Indo Gulf Middle East Chamber of Commerce (INMECC) incorporated in India.
Taking part in the proceedings were Amit Narang, Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Fuad Jaffar – former Omani Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries; Mohammed Hanish, Principal Secretary (Industries), Kerala Government; Dr N M Sharafudeen, Chairman – INMECC; and Mohiyudeen Mohammed Ali, Chairman - INMECC (Oman Chapter). Davis Kallukaran, founding director of INMECC Oman, also addressed the gathering.
