MUSCAT: Hydrom, the master-planner and orchestor of Oman’s green hydrogen sector, has underscored its commitment to grow low-carbon hydrogen production in the country as Strategic Partners of the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman (GHSO). Set to make history as the largest gathering of its kind in the MENA region, GHSO brings together government officials, policy makers, energy experts and industries to advance global collaboration and action towards a clean-energy future.

“The expansion of our green hydrogen industry serves multiple strategic objectives for Hydrom and Oman, including ensuring energy security for the Sultanate and developing a value chain that supports the comprehensive ambitions of Vision 2040,” said Abdulaziz al Shidhani, Managing Director of Hydrom. “The GHSO provides a key opportunity to bring the international community together and share Oman’s unique advantages to support the global energy transition and create sustainable, virtuous economies for the future.”

Oman have set out a bold green hydrogen agenda, targeting production of one million tons annually by 2030. Established by royal directives in 2022, Hydrom is mandated to orchestrate the country’s ambitious plans to become a key producer of green hydrogen. With significant renewables potential - including some of the world’s strongest winds and year-round solar – 50,000 km2 land earmarked for green hydrogen production and localized infrastructure that supports a robust logistics hub, Oman is uniquely positioned to leverage the global energy transition and bolster commercial opportunity across industries.

Hydrom has made huge strides since launching, signing commercial terms with six legacy initiatives while remaining legacy initiative projects are expected to be awarded by December 2023 and 2nd bid round projects awarded by Q1 2024. The ongoing bid rounds and investments totaling over $30 billion of the round 1 signed agreements underscore Oman's commitment to generate a green economy that paves the road to Net Zero and emerge as a pivotal participant in the worldwide hydrogen market – a key takeaway from last year’s GHSO.

The Green Hydrogen Summit Oman is taking place from December 12-14 at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre Muscat. It marks a crucial milestone in Oman's commitment to sustainability, promoting its potential to develop a fully-integrated hydrogen ecosystem and enable the delivery of projects competitively, and at scale, for the world.
