MUSCAT, DEC 11

Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are set to be signed on the opening day, Tuesday, December 12, 2023, of the Green Hydrogen Summit Oman (GHSO), hosted under the auspices of His Excellency Eng Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat.

The three-day event, highlighting the Sultanate of Oman’s aspirations to become a leading global producer and exporter of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, will kick off on Tuesday with the formal inauguration of a major exhibition showcasing technologies and innovations from around the world. HE Salim Al Aufi, accompanied by local and international dignitaries, will tour various pavilions starting at 8 am before delivering a ministerial keynote at 9 am.

The highpoint of the opening session will be the signing of an agreement, as well as MoUs, by key entities, including Hydrom (the master planner and orchestrator of Oman’s green hydrogen industry), ACME (an India-based group currently developing a green hydrogen project in Duqm SEZ), and Takhzeen (an Omani-Italian partnership specializing in energy storage solutions). Details about the MoUs will be shared at a media briefing planned at the venue soon after the keynote address.

A key highlight of the proceedings on the opening day is the launch of the ‘Future Energy Leaders’ competition, where local and international students will present solutions to some of the world’s toughest energy challenges. Dr Sausan Al Riyami, Director of Oman Hydrogen Centre (OHC), will provide an overview of the competition, with Dr Intisar Al Busaidi of Sultan Qaboos University welcoming the contestants.

Taking center stage on Day 1 of GHSO 2023 is an expo featuring more than 40 exhibitors from China, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Australia, the UAE, France, India, and The Netherlands, among other countries. Turnout over the course of the 3-day show is projected to surpass 5,000 visitors.

The main summit proceedings, commencing on Wednesday, December 13, will cover a wide spectrum of topics at the heart of Oman’s energy transition and green energy future. Over 100 distinguished speakers will address the Summit and the Masterclass sessions.

Ensuring enriching content during GHSO 2023 are multiple ‘side-events,’ notably the ‘Energy Executive Circle (EEC),’ a high-profile forum set to take place at 6 pm on December 13 at JW Marriott Muscat. The event will be attended by government ministers, C-suite officials, and energy leaders from across the globe.

GHSO 2023 has been organized by Birba, Oman’s leading energy-centric events company, with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. Sponsorship support for the event has come from all key players slated to participate in Oman’s green hydrogen economy. The forum brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators in joint discussion sessions to present the latest policies, legislation, and modern technology aimed at accelerating the pace of energy transition and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
