The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) hosted the 10th edition of the Annual Research Forum in Muscat on Monday under the auspices of Dr Hilal bin Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health. The National Research Awards were presented during the forum.


The forum commenced with a keynote address by Dr Saif bin Abdullah bin Sulaiman al Haddabi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Research and Innovation. Dr Al Haddabi highlighted the need for fostering an environment conducive to research, development, innovation, and creativity, with the ultimate goal of transforming the Sultanate of Oman into a knowledge-based economy in line with the visionary directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.


Dr Al Haddabi underscored the pivotal role played by the National Research Award over the past decade in supporting Omani scientists, researchers, and innovators. The award has not only motivated them to conduct impactful research but has also provided scientific solutions to both national and global challenges.


The 10th National Research Award in the PhD Category were bagged by Dr Alya bint Talib al Farsiyah, Dr Khalaf bin Marhoun al Abri, Dr Abdulhakeem Yaqoob Al Hashim, Dr Tahereh Jafary and Dr Mohammed Seddik Meddah.

In the Young Researcher's category, Fatma bint Nasser al Shohoumiyah, Marwa bint Nasser al Rajhiyah, Dr Rajaa bint Saleh al Farsiyah, Makhlas bin Said al Marshoudi, and Mohammed bin Abdullah al Buraiki won the awards.


The forum also showcased success stories from three Research and Innovation Sector programmes. Two discussion sessions explored the impact of research in the industrial and academic sectors.


The forum witnessed the signing of research contracts for the Strategic Research Projects Programme with six government institutions, totalling over RO 800,000, while the Block Funding Programme inked deals with 26 academic and government institutions, worth over RO 2,000,000.


An accompanying exhibition displayed 18 posters showcasing the winning National Research Award research projects, success stories from the Upgrade Programme, Block Funding Programme, and National Research Award, along with an overview of programmes and projects from the Research and Innovation Sector of MoHERI.
