More than 200 anti-fraud leaders and experts from various sectors in the country participated in the ACFE Annual Anti-Fraud Conference to discuss the latest trends and tools used in fraud detection and prevention from the evolving risks of fraudulent activities. Recent fraud trends have been related to the pandemic and cryptocurrency.

More than $4.7 trillion is lost annually to occupational fraud worldwide, as per the latest data in Occupational Fraud 2022: A Report to the Nations released by the ACFE.

The ACFE Annual Anti-Fraud Conference, inaugurated by Tahir bin Salim al Amri, Executive President of Central Bank of Oman, at Oman Sheraton, hosted by the Oman Chapter of ACFE and held under the patronage of the College of Banking and Financial Studies (CBFS), had attendees from the State Audit Institution, Royal Oman Police, Capital Market Authority, Central Bank of Oman and Public Authority for Consumer Protection.

The typical loss due to fraud varies by region, but at the top three are Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa.

In his speech, Executive President of CBO, Tahir bin Salim al Amri, welcomed the participants and thanked all Board members of ACFE for hosting the Anti-Fraud Forum 2023 in Oman and for their role in executing sustainable initiatives in secure business environments.

The chief guest felicitated the ACFE awardees. “Developing human capital and getting professional global certification is a mark of achievements, national investment in future, fostering a knowledgeable and skilled workforce moving the Sultanate of Oman towards sustainable development goals,” he said.

President of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Oman Chapter, Khalil al Rawahi, said, “We greatly appreciate the support and collaborations with the Oman Ministry’s representations for the Anti-Fraud Forum 2023. With new fraud threats arising every day, it is important to have events like this to learn from financial crime experts and one another so that we can prevent these frauds from greatly impacting our businesses and governments.”
