The highly anticipated Second Woman & Child International Film Festival is set to captivate audiences in Muscat, commencing this Monday. Organized by the esteemed Oman Film Society, the festival, spanning from December 4 to 6, is poised to showcase a diverse array of cinematic treasures focusing on women and children.
Revealing an extensive lineup of events and initiatives, the festival's organizing committee aims to galvanize Omani women and children's involvement while projecting a progressive image of Omani society's commitment to their issues. Emphasizing inclusivity, the festival aims to attract and support Omani women in the film industry, foster children's cinematic experiences, unearth emerging talents, and position Muscat as a vibrant hub for cinema, tourism, visual arts, and creativity.
Over three days, the festival will host competitive categories, featuring the International Narrative Film Competition, the Omani Narrative Film Competition, the International Documentary Film Competition, and the Omani Documentary Film Competition.
With an overwhelming response, 85 films from 14 countries worldwide have been submitted for consideration. From this pool, 39 exceptional films, comprising 31 feature films and 8 documentaries, have been selected for the festival's competitions. These films will vie for prestigious awards including Best International Narrative Film, Best Omani Narrative Film, Best Screenplay, and Special Jury recognitions in both narrative and documentary categories.
Renowned personalities in the film industry will comprise the distinguished juries. The feature film panel includes esteemed directors such as Nujoom Al-Ghanem from the UAE, Aisha Al-Rifai from Saudi Arabia, and Omani artist Nour Al-Huda Al-Ghamaria. The documentary film jury comprises director Marwa Al-Sharqawi from Egypt, along with Dr. Azza Al-Qassabiya and Professor Laura Al-Siyabiyah from Oman.
Beyond film screenings, the festival promises engaging dialogue sessions, highlighted by a workshop titled "Make Your Own Documentary Film," led by director Marwa Al-Sharqawi. Furthermore, guests will partake in tailored tourist tours across Muscat Governorate.
The festival's grand inauguration at the Oman Film Society headquarters will feature the screening of "Clouds" by director Muzna Al-Musafer, alongside a special segment celebrating Palestine. This prestigious event will be graced by esteemed female artists and directors renowned for their exceptional cinematic and artistic contributions.
Khitam Al-Sayyid, the Festival Director, expressed immense joy in presenting the festival's second edition, underscoring its burgeoning influence on both local and international platforms. She emphasized the festival's commitment to honoring women and reinforcing their pivotal role in society, irrespective of cultural boundaries.
