The Bausher Blood Bank, under the Department of Blood Bank Services (DBBS) at the Ministry of Health (MoH), has called for plasma donation. There is a requirement for plasma due to increased demand.
One can donate blood plasma at the Bausher Blood Bank any day during official working hours.
"We require blood plasma, especially the AB+ group, which is relatively less in supply. We also encourage platelet donors," a statement from the Bank said.
Anyone who meets the requirements can visit the blood bank between Saturday and Thursday from 8 am to 8 pm and donate blood plasma.
The department is reaching out to a wider community directly or through social media platforms with a renewed call urging all to donate immune plasma after it was proven to be effective as a supportive treatment for some cases and subsequent increase in demand for the same.
At the Department, the donors will be evaluated to ensure they meet all the eligibility criteria and are negative for NCDs before scheduling an appointment. The plasma donation is performed at the Central Blood Bank in Bausher, where plasma is collected through a special device to separate it and then divide it into two to three units, according to Dr Zainab al Araimi, Head of the Department.
