Oman all set for Arab School Football Championship in Egypt

The Oman under-15 football team will face a challenge of battling with Morocco and Lebanon in Group B after the draw for Arab School Football Championship took place in Cairo on Saturday.


As many as 10 teams are taking part in the school football event and the teams are distributed into three groups.


Group A comprised the hosts Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait while Group C featured Algeria, Iraq, Palestine and Libya teams. The top two teams in each group will advance to the second round besides the two best-placed teams in the third place.


The Arab School Football Championship began in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday and will run until November 27. Besides football competitions, swimming is another sport competition which will take place during the same period.


Oman junior team will begin their campaign in the school event with a match against Morocco on Monday while they will conclude their group match on Thursday against Lebanon.


The Oman girls football junior team is taking part in the tournament as well. As many as five teams are competing in the girls competition including hosts Egypt, Oman, Algeria, Morocco and Jordan. The playing format will be from one round. The Oman girls will meet Egypt in the opener on Monday.


The Oman boys completed their preparatory programme after a series of local gatherings. In October camp, the team played two friendly matches against Kuwait. The Oman junior team won both of them with a 3-0 score in the opening fixture and 2-0 in the second match. In the both encounters, the head coach Anwar al Habsi had taken the advantage of giving the opportunity for maximum players to play and to evaluate their final performance and readiness ahead of finalising the starting line-up.


Following this event, Oman team will take part in the Under-15 West Asian Football Championship which will be hosted in Salalah. The West Asian event is scheduled from December 1 to 10 under the umbrella of the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) in coordination with the OFA.
