Salalah receives over 73mm of rain on Friday night

Muscat: The city of Salalah and the surrounding mountain areas witnessed rainfall of varying intensity on Friday.


Waterlogging was reported in some parts of the city, which led to the slowing down of vehicular traffic.


At 10 pm on Friday, Salalah reached more than 73 mm of rain and after midnight the monitoring station at Salalah Airport recorded 90.2 mm, Port of Salalah 27.6 mm of rain.


A senior official at Oman Meterology said that there were no indications of such heavy rain and the effects of air trough were to end on Thursday.


"Some indicators hinted at rainfall of less than 5 mm, but not this quantity and intensity."

For Saturday, Oman Meterology reported a flow of low and medium clouds over parts of the Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates, and clouds flow from the Arabian Sea onto their


coasts with chances of heavy rains, which will lead to the flow of wadis in many areas.


Salalah is expected to get around 21mm of rain on Saturday, and the wet conditions are expected to continue until Sunday morning.
