Met issues heavy rain alert over al Hajar mountain areas

Muscat: Oman's Met Office on Tuesday issued a heavy rain alert over the al Hajar mountain areas on Tuesday.


"There are chances for local formations and thunderstorms accompanied by active downward winds during the afternoon and evening on the Hajar Mountains and the surrounding areas. Poor horizontal visibility and 15-35 KT downdraft wind also expected during thudershowers," the Weather Office said in a statement.


Heavy rains are expected over this stretch from 1pm today till 10 pm.


Ad Dhakyliah, Ad Dhahirah, South al Batinah, North al Batinah and North Sharqiyah are likely to get affected.


Weather office urged everyone to stay away from low-lying areas and wadis.
