MUSCAT: The Second Co-League Basketball Championship 2023 came to an exciting conclusion at the sub-court of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. The Al Hajri Team clinched the championship title with a well-earned victory over the Volkswagen Team, securing a final score of 73-62.


The event, held under the auspices of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association, witnessed the presence of Christian Naima, CEO of Al Mutamiz Automobiles Company. The championship was organised by Sports Mania in collaboration with Volkswagen Oman.


Following the conclusion of this gripping match, Eng Khalfan al Naabi and Christian Naima awarded the deserving players with the following accolades: Ahmed Abuhamar from the Al Hajri Team was honoured as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final match. Haitham Bani Arabah of the Surooj Team received the Assist Award, while Sharbel from the Volkswagen Team earned recognition as the Best Defender. Jazil Qamar of the Al Hajri Team secured the Three-Point Shooting Award, and Basim al Musalmi, also from the Al Hajri Team, was recognised as the Best Player of the Tournament. Subsequently, Al Hajri Team celebrated with the gold medals and the championship cup, while the Volkswagen Team received silver medals and the runner-up prize.


From the onset, Al Hajri demonstrated their dominance, making a strong start and maintaining their lead throughout the first three-quarters of the game. Despite Volkswagen's valiant efforts to narrow the gap during the final quarter, Al Hajri's swift response ensured their lead remained intact until the final buzzer.

In the opening moments of the match, the Al Hajri surged ahead with a four-point lead, courtesy of two baskets by Ahmed Abuhamar beneath the basket. However, Musab al Wahibi from the Volkswagen Team managed to reduce the deficit by scoring two points from under the basket. Al Hajri extended their lead to 7-2 with a three-point shot by Ahmed Abuhamar. The team continued to build on their advantage, adding 5 points through the contributions of Jazil Jamrak and Dimba Matloub, bringing the score to 11-2 in favour of Al Hajri. The first quarter concluded with Al Hajri leading Volkswagen 24-10.


In the second quarter, Al Hajri maintained their dominance, while the Volkswagen Team faced challenges on the defensive end. Al Hajri added 17 points, and Volkswagen contributed 14, resulting in a half-time score of 41-24 in favour of Al Hajri.


The third quarter witnessed Al Hajri retaining their lead in the initial 5 minutes, with a score of 47-26. The excitement continued with both teams adding points, and the third quarter concluded with Al Hajri leading 63-44.


During the fourth quarter, the game's scoring dynamic shifted in favour of Volkswagen Team. However, Al Hajri's consistent performance allowed them to secure the victory.
