

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth in collaboration with the Oman Basketball Association (OBA), successfully concluded the championship for sports development centres of basketball players as part of the 'Exploration to Achievement' project. The event took place over two days, featuring thrilling competitions among six teams.
The award ceremony was under the auspices of Jaber bin Mohammed al Shabibi, Director of National Teams Affairs and the Project Director of Sports Preparation System, to honour the exceptional players.
Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, OBA Chairman; Dr Ali bin Salam al Yaarubi, Vice-President; and Mohammed bin Nasser al Hassani, General Secretary, were also present at the ceremony, demonstrating their support for sports development in Oman.
The highlight of the championship was the outstanding performance of Nizwa Club, which clinched the title of the first championship in all categories. The Nizwa team demonstrated remarkable skills and determination throughout the final matches, earning well-deserved gold medals for their accomplishments. Sohar Club secured the runner-up position in both categories, earning the silver medals.
Individual players from Nizwa Club bagged two awards. Adam al Hinai from Nizwa Club received the top scorer award in the 2009 category, scoring an impressive 49 points. His teammate, Mutaz al Rashidi, was the top scorer in the 2010 category, with an outstanding 72 points.
The final match of the 2010 category was a closely contested battle between Nizwa and Sohar teams. Eventually, Nizwa emerged victorious, defeating Sohar 27-20. The match witnessed both teams exchanging control at different periods, providing an exciting display of basketball skills. Similarly, in the 2009 category, Nizwa's dominance was evident as they secured a decisive victory against Sohar 46-28.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Al Shabibi emphasised the significance of the championship in revitalising sports preparation centres across Oman. He expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth and the sports associations, which made the championship possible. Al Shabibi praised the efforts of the OBA in monitoring the centers technically and guiding the coaches to enhance training programs and performance levels.
The 'Exploration to Achievement' project, initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth in Oman in 2022, aims to discover and nurture talented athletes, elevating Oman's ranking in various sports and achieving positive results in upcoming championships. This championship serves as a crucial platform to assess the performance of sports preparation centres and foster healthy competition among players.
Al Naabi, applauded the ministry's support for athletes' preparation centres, providing them with necessary resources and technical assistance under the guidance of highly qualified coaches. He highlighted the tournament's role in evaluating the performance of players and centers, as well as identifying and developing promising talents.
The championship showcased the commitment and dedication of coaches in nurturing young players, and Al Naabi expressed his hope for continued support from clubs to bolster sports preparation centres and enhance their performance in future tournaments.
