

Omani women actively participate in political life. Their participation in electing the members of Majlis Ash’shura for the 10th term, constitutes a pivotal point as Oman women made a lot of achievements alongside their male counterparts for the development of the country and in line with the visions that call for supporting women.
A total of 738 candidates are standing for the elections of Majlis Ash’shura including 31 women. The number of new voters registered through Intikhab application amounts to 91 per cent compared with 9 per cent of voters who registered via the election website.
The Basic Statute of the State guaranteed women’s rights to vote and stand elections. The women’s participation in Majlis Ash’shura elections is a testament to their ability to compete with men armed with competence and high-level of education which helped them to assume high-ranking positions in the state.
The statistics reveal that Omani women have excelled in various fields, constituting over 33 per cent of the total workforce in the public and private sectors. Their active role in shaping Oman’s future and contributing to its progress has positioned them as scientific and practical leaders.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has emphasised the pivotal role of women in shaping the nation’s present and future, acknowledging their fundamental role in national development. The 9th period of the Majlis Ash’shura elections (2019-2023) witnessed a notable increase in the number of woman candidates, highlighting the success of Omani women in their roles within the Shura process.
The election law for the Majlis Ash’shura, as outlined in Royal Decree No. 58/2013, guarantees the political rights of Omani women, aligning with the Basic Law of the State. The Ministry of Interior ensures the transparency of the electoral process and promotes the expansion of Omani women’s participation in the Majlis Ash’shura.
Omani women have not only worked within government agencies but have also played vital roles in civil sectors and private sector companies, underscoring their significance in the nation’s development.
The Majlis Ash’shura serves as a platform through which Omani women contribute to society, showcasing their diverse capabilities. This reflects a mature, aware, and responsible society that recognises the importance of women’s voices in shaping the nation.
