Omani-Hungarian economic ties poised for strong growth

MUSCAT : The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) hosted here yesterday, October 24, 2023, the Omani-Hungarian Business Forum with the aim of enhancing investment and trade ties between the two countries.


In a statement, OCCI Chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Abdullah al Rawas emphasized the importance of the business event, sharing that it coincides with a period of time when both Oman and Hungary are actively exploring opportunities.


Furthermore, Al Rawas indicated that the current robust diplomatic relations between the two nations- necessitates for the expansion of economic ties to meet the aspirations of the two nations.


Al Rawas shared that the Sultanate of Oman offers various investment opportunities, specifically in sectors of industry, tourism, food security logistics, education, health and information technology. Oman also offers a lucrative environment for investors, considering its economic and political stability, and its strategic location, he noted.


The President of the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Franz Miklosi, underlined the Hungarian trade delegation's enthusiasm for future cooperation and investments in the Sultanate of Oman.


Bernabas Fodor, Ambassdor of the Republic of Hungary to the Sultanate of Oman, praised the development of relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Hungary, and expressed hope for the further development and strengthening of trade ties between the two nations.


According to Fodor, the anticipated opening of the Omani embassy in Hungary will further strengthen bilateral trade ties.


Last year, it was announced that the Hungarian energy firm MOL would invest 10 million euros in a solar power plant in Oman. Earlier this month, the two nations signed a memorandum of understanding in the realms of low-carbon and renewable energy.


The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, shared that the nations are exploring a possible collaboration in the realm of LNG.
