

Dhofar: Various sectors are deploying their full capabilities to cope with the expected effect from Cyclone Tej.

At its meeting held on Sunday under the chairmanship of Lt Gen Hasan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector-General of Police and Customs, the National Committee for Emergency Management on Sunday affirmed its readiness to deal with the cyclone and is taking suitable decisions to evacuate the areas that are expected to be the worst hit by the cyclone.

The committee decided to evacuate the inhabitants of Al Halaniyat Islands in Dhofar Governorate and the coastal areas in the wilayats of Salalah, Rakhyout and Dhalkout.

The committee said that 6 shelter centres have been readied in the Wilayat of Salalah in addition to 3 in each of the wilayats of Taqa, Mirbat and Dhalkout, 4 shelter centres in the Wilayats of Sadah, 5 in the Wilayat of Rakhyout and 6 in the Wilayat of Al Mazyouna. This is in addition to one shelter centre each in the Wilayat of Thamrait, Shaleem and Maqshin. Another 3 shelter centres have been set up in the Wilayat of Al Jazir in Al Wusta Governorate.

The Relief and Sheltering Sector called on all people living in the areas that are expected to be affected by Cyclone Tej to head to one of the announced shelter centres.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the National Committee for Emergency Management, decided to evacuate the Sultan Qaboos Hospital, Salalah and to receive emergency cases at the Salalah Heart Center and the emergency unit of the Armed Forces Hospital in Salalah.

The ministry also closed Al Dahareez Health Centre and the new Salalah Health Centre until further notice. As part of its preparations for the tropical condition, the Ministry of Health has activated the existing call centre around the clock.
