Muscat: The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) said it is ready to deal with the tropical situation 'Tej' and has put its units in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates on alert.

Mohammed bin Hamoud al Mahmoudi, Assistant Director-General of Operations and Training at the CDAA, said the authority has put in place, personnel, equipment and vehicles to face the tropical situation, and gear up for search and rescue operations.

The authority has dispatched boats, jet skis and supplies. It also set up 5 advanced points in Dhofar and three points in Al Wusta.

He pointed out that the search and rescue sector and the hazardous materials handling sector, whose management is the responsibility of the Authority, are constantly following up on developments.

He urged citizens and residents to adhere to the instructions issued by the concerned authorities in order to preserve the safety of lives and property.

Al Mahmoudi said the authority is spreading awareness about safety measures during flash floods and rains through its website and social media. He appealed to everyone to be careful, not to take risks, and to stay away from low-lying areas prone to flooding, avoid circulating rumours, and listen to warnings and bulletins issued by official authorities.

The Consumer Protection Authority in Dhofar said its officials are monitoring the prices of essentials and its stock in the market. It warned of legal measures against violators.

The Authority said people can register complaints on its toll-free numbers (80077997 - 80079009).
