MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, on Thursday chaired the 33rd meeting of GCC ministers of justice.
Dr Abdullah bin Mohammed al Saidi, Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, said that the meeting discussed a draft agreement on legal and judicial cooperation among GCC states in civil, commercial and personal statute matters, in addition to a draft agreement on legal and judicial cooperation in penal matters.
Al Saidi pointed out that the challenges posed by the rapid development in various fields reflect heavily on judicial and legal systems. This necessitates the modernisation of justice systems to help keep pace and develop innovative solutions, he added.
The GCC has gone a long way on consolidating foundations of cooperation in various areas, including the judicial and legal fields, Al Saidi said.
In their meeting, the GCC ministers discussed a draft agreement on the extradition of the accused and convicts in member states. They also exchanged views about a scheme for developing a GCC draft agreement on implementing court rulings and judicial announcements, among other matters. - ONA
